Expanded Choreography research workshop at University of Bern

We were delighted to be invited back to the University of Bern between 6-8th May (we were last there in March 2022), to take part in the workshop exploring The limits of expanded choreography: Eurocentric paradigm or critical potential? curated by Anna Leon and Johanna Hilari.

We were together with the following wonderful practitioners and thinkers: Charlotta Ruth, David Castillo, Freda Fiala, Marcel Kieslich, Moss Kaldi, Willimann/Arai and Dawit Seto

Artist talk on practice at Campus Gegenwart, Stuttgart

We will be in Stuttgart to give a workshop for students at the HmdK as part of the Campus Gegenwart on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th April. We will be particularly looking at what constitutes a practice and how to sustain long term practices.

On the evening of 17th April at 6pm, we will be giving a public talk entitled The beauty lies in not stopping: the long-term daily practice of plan b  in the Orchesterprobenraum (OPR) of the HMdK (Urbanstraße 25, Stuttgart). Do join us if you can.

Another Green World
a fireside dreaming with plan b

Saturday 7 October from 4 – 7 pm
followed by drinks and soup

As the autumn sets in and winter draws near, we invite you to dream of better, greener worlds to come. Having gathered rosemary, lavender, wormwood and sage we will bind the herbs ready for you to take home for future dreaming and cleansing.

While we do this, we will collectively enter into future visions beyond the eminent damage to this world and encounter another green world. What does waking up and stepping into this world feel like, sound like, smell like?

Afterwards, sipping lemon balm tea, a wormwood tincture based on a recipe by Hildegard herself and a hearty soup, we will warm ourselves around the fire as we share journeys through the collective imaginary.

Another Green World workshop at Art Laboratory Berlin

We are running a workshop on Sunday 14 August at Art Laboratory Berlin, Prinzenallee 34, 13359 Berlin.

Using green space in the urban context of Wedding in Berlin, plan b invite participants to this outdoor workshop to collectively envision another kind of green, urban world, one that might sustain us in an uncertain future? Building on techniques of perception and imagining developed by the environmental activist Rob Hopkins, pioneer of the transition movement and author of From What Is to What If, we use the radical, transformative power of our imaginations to assess what we already have and taste what is nearly in our grasp.

Cost: 12 EUR / 8 EUR

The workshop has a very limited capacity, therefore registration is necessary.

The Pervasion of the Digital at Bern University

Sophia and Dan were hugely delighted to be invited to contribute to the two-day interdisciplinary workshop at the Theatre and Dance Studies Department of Bern University in Switzerland on 2-3 March. Johanna Hilari (Bern) and Anna Leon (Vienna) did a wonderful job of putting together a fascinating workshop with plenty of time to exchange, eat together and get to know each others research and artistic practice. The weather was good too!

Urban Workshop in Berlin and a new project in Düsseldorf

This month we seem to be very busy with public space. Firstly, our workshop (Re)discovering the City is happening again 14 – 17 June as part of the Berlin University of the Arts and the Udk Studium Generale. We’ll be exploring and introducing artistic strategies to intervene in public space and urban environments.

We have also been preparing for the new commission called ‘The Day the Books Took Off for the Impulse Fesitval where we have made a small performantive installation (meant for 2 people at a time) in the International English Library. We are one of the five artist groups contributing to the Stadtprojekt which is called Wenn die Häuser Trauer Tragen (When the Buildings Carry Grief) which is responding to the fact that the last public building in central Düsseldorf is to be sold off. All the institutions are having to be rehoused and not everyone is happy about that. Upstairs in the library that has existed for the last 70 years we are using some of the culled books to make birds and reflect on their materiality and sancturary of libraries and their threatened status. All the tours are free as is the final farewell party on 24th June from 18.00 so if you are in the area do pop by

Nonhuman Networks opening

Join us this Friday 29 September at 8.00pm where you can see the outcomes of our Swarm Cell City slime mould workshop at Art Laboratory Berlin. The exhibition features Heather Barnett und Saša Spacal and will run until 26 November. Opening times are Friday – Sunday 2-6pm or by appointment.

Swarm Cell City workshop with Heather Barnett at Art Laboratory, Berlin

We are looking forward to collaborating with the London-based artist Heather Barnett on a two-day workshop on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September at Art Laboratory Berlin, Prinzenallee 34, 13359 Berlin.

The project invites the participants to view the city of Berlin by the nonhuman perspectives of the intelligent single-cell organism, the slime mould, Physarum polycephalum and GPS tracking.

After a day discovering and experimenting with living slime mould cultures under Heather’s expert guidance, on the second day, we will ask what it is to embody slime mould and how to adopt its techniques for spatial investigation onto the urban petri dish of Wedding.

We will develop our own ‘stigmergic’ rules (leaving traces in environment that affect the behaviour of others) as well as seeing whether we can all develop a sense of being one organism that explores its environment.

Dan and Sophia’s particular area of expertise with GPS will be used to track our excursions as slime mould across the urban space and after the workshop, animations of the group’s explorations will contribute to the final exhibition.

The workshop costs 20/15 EUR for both days which run from 1-5pm. Please register by sending an email to register@artlaboratory-berlin.org
